This painting captures one of my favorite photos from my childhood. Here I am pictured (left) with my best friend Nora (center) and my sister Natalie (right). We’re at a cabin in New Hampshire where we spent time in the summer, swimming in the lake and running amok.
Painting from photos is not easy and I found it difficult to decide when to be finished with the piece. But in the end, gouache will only allow so many layers before you start to lose your work. Maybe I’ll paint this again in a different medium and see if I can capture the “disposable camera” flash that I love so much about this image.
